Been trying my hand at getting the students to teach themselves Calcs. Using the continuum line method I split my students up with those that know and those that need to know.
This method worked ok for the first lesson. Although when I gave a trial test to guage the understanding of my students I found that they were lying to me and did not understand what was happening. most got the basics of calculating weatherboards required for a building, however the actual setout on the takeoff sheet was absolutely horendous. Taking another lesson to show the setout that is required of them the results of the actual test were good.
The problem being our course content is so packed and this took 2 extra blocks to teach. So in effect I will have to take shortcuts in teaching other topics to gain those 4 hours.
Not discounting the method as it is usefull just discounting the results.
